Doing a spot check of the news today, I saw an interesting article on the “Medical News Today” website. The article discusses the benefits of using hypnosis in a dental office and how the USC School of Dentistry offers formal training for dental professionals in the use of hypnosis.
I think that using hypnosis in the dental office makes perfect sense. Self hypnosis is a great way to calm fears and help someone relax. I believe that anyone in the medical profession, (not just dentistry), could benefit from knowing, understanding and using hypnosis techniques to calm a patient’s nerves.
The article goes on to say, “In the average patient, we can teach them to relax and control their fears 90 percent of the time. In a small group of patients, hypnosis allows them to control pain, bleeding or salivation during a procedure or speed up recovery time“.
If you or someone you know, suffers from dental anxiety, (and who of us doesn’t suffer at least a little), I would encourage you to take a look at using hypnosis. You can learn self hypnosis techniques that you can take right into your dentist’s office. After using these techniques, I guarantee your next visit to the dentist is sure to be less stressful!
