I believe in positive affirmations. Does that mean I believe that if you think about money a couple times a day, you’re going to get rich? No…not really. I do however, believe that affirmations can play an important role in our success…be it financial, health related or otherwise.
So what is an affirmation? “The Free Online Dictionary” says this, “Something declared to be true; a positive statement or judgement” If you keep reminding & repeating to yourself, these positive thoughts, you will subconsciously begin to act upon them. Actually, there is an explanation that is much deeper than this, but I’m not going to go into it at this time
I believe you should use positive affirmations in your self hypnosis practice. To me, self hypnosis without focusing on your affirmations is a waste of time. I believe and instruct others that they “must” have goals in mind when performing their self hypnosis. This is assuming they are not using an audio recording to “guide” them in their session. I’m going to provide you with some sample affirmations on the pages referenced below, but I personally believe you should learn to write your own. It’s not difficult to do and you only need to follow some basic rules when writing them.
Be Positive – Never use negative words or phrases in your affirmations. For example, if you wanted to lose weight, you wouldn’t want to use this affirmation: “I want to stop being so fat” Try something more like, “I can picture my slender body in the mirror” Don’t worry that you may not slender yet…thats what the affirmations are about. Keep thinking positive and you WILL BE!
Think In The Present – “I want” or “I plan to” or “I hope to quit smoking” are not good affirmations. They are set in the future aren’t they? Like “maybe someday I’ll give up cigarettes”. Live for today! Think about it as though your goal is here now. “I enjoy my life as a non-smoker”, “My clothes smell fresh & clean without smoke”.
Use The Senses – This is a little trick I like to use. When creating your affirmations, try to think about your senses and use as many as possible. “I see myself slimmer & healthier” – “It sounds good to hear people tell me how proud they are of me”, “I can feel the abdominal muscles becoming tighter & more defined”. Using your senses helps you connect to your subconscious, and thats where your brain is programmed to make changes.
Use Emotions – Like the last tip, try to connect with your emotions as much as possible when writing affirmations. Again…the subconscious really relates to the emotions. Those thoughts and feelings get deeply implanted when you connect with your emotions.
