Hypnosis & self hypnosis involves occupying or bypassing the conscious mind while speaking directly or offering suggestions to the subconscious mind. Whats the difference in the two you ask?
The conscious mind is the part of your brain that judges, analyzes and criticizes all information. It is the thinking, problem solving part of the brain. The following are some examples of everyday functions of the conscious mind:
- Allows you to pick out the clothes your going to wear today based on the weather and your likes and dislikes
- Tells you how to get to work or to the store
- Helps you choose what to eat for lunch
- Reminds you that you have a doctors appointment this afternoon
- Acts like a filter or protector for the subconscious mind
The subconscious mind works somewhat like a computer. Once information is allowed to enter into the subconscious, it’s stored and dictates behavior according to that information. It accepts information without bias. The following are the functions of the subconscious:
- Habitual conduct (habits)
- Reflexes
- Emotions
- Memory
- Involuntary bodily functions (heart beating, breathing, eyes blinking…the things that happen without you having to think about it)
Look at the areas where the subconscious mind plays a role. Now if self hypnosis works and speaks directly to the subconscious mind, then I think you can see that you can affect a lot of your life by practicing self hypnosis!
