Hypnosis: Real or Fake?

Filed Under Facts About Hypnosis |

I recently received a comment from someone that told me they believed that hypnosis was, quite frankly, “BS”. Believe me…it isn’t the first time I’ve heard people say that and it certainly won’t be the last.

Whether someone believes or doesn’t believe in hypnosis, is really irrelevant to me. I’m not here to try and force a belief down someone’s throat. I’m here to offer information and advice about hypnosis & self hypnosis. I could debate the subject all day long, but in the end, people are going to believe what they want to believe, regardless of what I might tell them. So I save my energy for more important things and don’t argue about it. All I can say is that it helped me quit smoking four years ago and has helped millions of others.

I’ve had people tell me right up front, “I don’t believe in hypnosis, but I’d really like to try it to help me lose weight”. I very politely and honestly tell them that they’re probably wasting their money trying it then. If you’re skeptical but you’ve heard and/or read about hypnosis and you think it may work for you, then the programs I promote here offer a 1 year, 100% money back guarantee. I’m not sure where you can go wrong with that? You try it and you think it’s hogwash, send it back within a year of the purchase date for your money! I seriously doubt that your going to get a guarantee like that if you go to visit a hypnotherapist in person. And all of these audio programs are created licensed therapists, and not someone who sent off for a certificate through the mail.

I’m here to help…not to force my beliefs on anyone. If you have questions, please feel free to comment or ask.

Thanks and have a great day!

I visited a comedy show centered around hypnosis. I was a skeptic myself and not really sure if what I was seeing was true.

A few weeks later, I ran into a girl that was part of the show. I asked her if it was setup and what it felt like. She made a believer out of me. She was given a tape of the night’s events and couldn’t believe the things she seen herself doing. She had very little memory of anything and described it as a dream.

Since then, I have been very interested in hypnosis and what it can be used for.

        Thanks for the great website.

Hi Brent - These shows can be great entertainment! I must say that I think there is a big difference between the stage shows and hypnosis for therapeutic purposes though. Both can be quite amazing! I’m living proof that hypnosis to quit smoking has been one of the best things that ever happened to me!
Thanks for dropping by and commenting!

believing depends on a person… its actually about opinion. for most people. believing doesnt work unless they experience the real thing.

but this site has been really helpful.
            thanks.

I am not sure what I believe, but the truth is, if you quit smoking because of it - isn’t that all that matters?

If someone could hypnotize me for real I would happily pay them £500 ($1000) but it’s not real.
When you hear people talking about how a friend of theirs went up on stage and did stuff that they would NEVER do, think first: The friend chose to go up on stage, he or she VOLUNTEERED so obviously they would be up for some fun. People quickly lose their inhibitions once they are up on stage much the same way as when you visit a dentist your heart is pumping when you are sitting in the waiting room but you relax once you are sitting in the dentists chair.

When a participant realizes that they have control even when they are supposed to have voluntarily given control over to the hypnotist, they may feel a need to assist the hypnotist rather than make him look like a fool and so they will play-act. After the show they will calm down, the adrenaline rush will end and they will return to a normal state of mind and be surprised at how they acted when they were on stage. This feeling they may attribute to “hypnosis” and use it to validate the experience as being real. In the retelling, the story becomes dramatized; instead of saying that the details are hard to recall they may claim to remember nothing, when asked how it felt to not be able to move they will not say that they simply felt obliged not to move but that they couldn’t move because they were under the control of the hypnotist.

In online tests I come out as being a “high” to “extremely high” on the hypnotizability scale but I spent many years trying self hypnosis and also visited a couple of hypnotherapists and felt nothing more than simple relaxation; no remarkable effects, no hallucinations (and I could hallucinate very easily at nighttime when I was a young child), nothing at all.

I would be hugely excited to experience real hypnosis but I haven’t seen a shred of evidence for it in 20 years of being interested in the subject.

That is a very long guarantee!! I agree with you though. You have to be able to relax and focus, and if the whole time you’re thinking it isn’t going to work for you, then you’re right, it won’t! It will if you try it with an open mind.

You’re exactly right when you say that it’s irrelevant whether you believe in hypnosis or not. Belief has nothing to do with it. People are skeptical when they don’t understand how the process works. I give weight loss hypnosis seminars all the time where the demonstrations seem to provide irrefutable evidence and then someone comes up to me afterward and says they don’t believe it. Ultimately people will believe whatever they want to believe.
