Hypnosis & Self Hypnosis: Whats The Difference?

In many places on this site, I’ll reference “hypnosis” right alongside of “self hypnosis”. Lots of folks have asked what the difference is?
Well…the two terms are really not that different. The tag line of this site says, “All Hypnosis Is Self Hypnosis” and really thats the truth. If you go to a hypnotist and he hypnotizes you, he is only “guiding” you in hypnosis. Really you are doing the work. The hypnotist is just the helper that is guiding you through the induction and giving you specific suggestions for whatever you’ve gone there for.
I think of “hypnosis” as a more general term describing the “field of hypnosis”. “Self-hypnosis” is something you’re going to do yourself. Whether that is listening to a CD in the privacy of your own home or taking a few minutes out of your busy day to calm and relax your mind, (never perform self hypnosis while driving!!!) You can learn to do a “self induction” which is the initial step to hypnosis or trance, and then focus on a problem or issue along with a satisfactory resolution to whatever that is. I know that is greatly simplifying the process, but how to do self-hypnosis is beyond the scope of this post and will be covered in another post.
So don’t be confused when I reference both “hypnosis” & “self hypnosis” in the same post. I often don’t distinguish between the two because they are so similar in meaning.
Thanks and have a great day!
