Hypnotherapist Found Guilty

There is a good chance you never would have seen or heard about this article, involving a hypnotherapist that was found guilty of fondling a couple of his clients. But I felt it was important to make some things clear so people realize that this is an isolated case.
You’re going to find “bad apples” in any profession, and hypnosis is no different. I would say that 99% of hypnotists and hypnotherapists are honest, respectable individuals that are simply trying to help others.
Not to defend the hypnotist in this case, but when I read this article I did notice that they mentioned that one of the defendants “awoke” and the other “came back to consciousness”. First of all, “awoke” would indicate to me that the person was “asleep”. A person should never be asleep during a hypnosis session. While the word “hypnosis” is derived from the Greek word “hypnos” meaning sleep, a person should never really be asleep. Someone who is asleep during a hypnosis session, isn’t going to get any benefit from the session.
“Came back to consciousness” is another term that sounds rather odd? A person that is undergoing hypnosis will always be able to consciously stop the session if something is happening that goes against their morals or values. From reading this article, it sounds more like both of these defendants were asleep, and not in a true state of hypnosis? Again….either way that doesn’t lessen the seriousness of this situation which obviously happened. It certainly gives a black eye to the hypnosis & hypnotherapy profession.
This is a good time to mention what would seem obvious. If you should decide to go to a hypnotherapist for treatment of a problem, always do your homework and make sure the hypnotist is reputable. While a hypnotherapist should respect the privacy of his or her clients, chances are they have a list of people that would be willing to provide testimonials & recommendations. Ask friends, family or co-workers. You’ll usually be able to find someone that has visited a hypnotist for smoking or weight loss.
If the thought of visiting a hypnotherapist “creeps you out”, you may find that using hypnosis audio programs is the answer to your problem. You can use these programs in the comfort of your own home and self hypnosis audio programs have come a long way in the last decade. Advances in therapy have allowed a recorded CD program to be an extremely effective treatment alternative to visiting a hypnotist. (It’s always recommended that you visit a reputable therapist when you require a specialized treatment). And please don’t just download the first free hypnosis MP3 you find on the internet and expect it to solve all your problems. “Free downloads” are great for sampling hypnosis, but probably not the most effective audio you’ll find for treating your issues. It’s like any other “free” items….you get what you pay for! There are some very respected hypnotists and companies that sell some very good hypnosis audio programs. The following are some that I would recommend:
- Hypnosis Network (One of my favorites. All of their programs are created by licensed doctors. Great selection of highly detailed audio programs)
- Tom Nicoli (Well respected in the hypnosis world and his weight loss program was featured on the “Dateline Weight Loss Challenge” a few years ago)
- Wendi Friesen (Another very notable & respected name in the hypnosis world. Wendi has created a “lot” of hypnosis programs that cover wide range of personal issues).
Well my post this time has gone a little deeper than I expected, but I hope you were able to learn something from it. Helping you gain the knowledge to make informed decisions is what this site is for.
Thanks and have a great day!
