Would You Ever Try Hypnosis?

I’m tinkering with a new “poll plugin”, but I simply don’t have the time right now to figure out how to use it! I would like to get people’s opinions on self-hypnosis though. In lieu of having an actual poll, feel free to leave a comment for the following question:
Have you, or would you ever use hypnosis if you thought it would help with an issue you were having?
You see…one of the purposes of this blog is to educate people about hypnosis. Generally speaking, people find hypnosis to be a little frightening, but I’ve found that there really is a huge interest and fascination with the subject.
I think that people put too much emphasis on the word “hypnosis”, and the images that word conjures up, (mind control, hypnosis stage shows where the hypnotist has someone dancing around on stage, a hypnotist with evil eyes putting you under some kind of spell). All quite intriguing, but not what hypnosis is about.
You know, we’re all being “hypnotized” to some extent each day. Advertisers spend billions each year to “hypnotize” you to buy their products or services. Sure…they wouldn’t call it hypnosis, but in effect, thats what it is. The next time you’re watching TV and a commercial comes on, see how the advertiser is trying to relate or build rapport with you.
So take a moment, leave a comment and share your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you think and I’m sure other readers would as well.
Have a great day!
Chris

Hi Chris, I tried hypnosis once for panic attacks, I only had one session but I never felt like I was under hypnosis during it. Is that normal?
Iain
Hello Chris.,
Hypnosis is a wonderful tool for rapidly reaching emotional blocks. Before I found EFT, hypnosis was useful to me in that I passed my driving test, which I couldn’t do without it. (Failed 3 times), and you are right in that we are all being hypnotised when we sit in front of the T.V.
There are some wonderful therapists who now use hypnosis with EFT and get great results. I wonder sometimes if clients don’t enter a light trance state when I use tapping with them.
I would totally try self hypnosis! There is this guy that does hypnosis to change your way of thinking and get you to focus on the things you really want.
Hi Kahea,
There are so many wonderful ways to utilize hypnosis. Such a valuable tool, but so many are frightened by it because they think hypnosis is going to “take control” of their mind. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Thank you for your comments!
Chris
I never tried it and I don’t know if I want to. I don’t want to crap my pants when I hear a whistle or something
Hello Kevin,
Ha! That would NOT be good! But I don’t think you’d have to worry about something like that happening!
Thanks for dropping by. Please do come again!
Chris
Actually I’m going to try it sometime next week..
Hello webfetti - If you get a chance, let us know how your experience with hypnosis goes! Thanks
Hi,
I would love to try hypnosis, I think it would be weird though. If I know where I can do it, I will go and try!
Hey Jack - Thanks for dropping by! Hypnosis would be great for concentration while skating!
interesting Q, not sure if i would maybe cause what i seen on tv
Hello Simon - Unfortunately, what we see on TV and in movies is what scares people most about hypnosis. It’s portrayed as some kind of “mind-control” tool which couldn’t be further from the truth. I do believe that “brainwashing” over a period of months or years can lead people to do some goofy things, but thats in a whole different thing than what we’re dealing with here.
Thank you for dropping by and providing your comments! Right on spot for this discussion!
I’d like to try hypnosis with a trained professional, seems like to important of a ‘treatment’ to DIY.
Hello Jeremy - I see your point, but as my tag line on this site reads, “all hypnosis is self hypnosis”. This is really a true statement. If you go to see a hypnotherapist, they act as a “guide” to help you, but you’re really the one that is in control of whether you’re hypnotized or not.
There are cases where I would absolutely recommend someone going to see a trained professional. But in many cases, a person will have as good or better results by simply listening to an audio program that is geared towards a particular problem. The reason why is that we will typically relax a lot more if we’re at home, listening to a program through headphones, vs. sitting in a room with someone that we don’t know.
You make a great point though. Thanks for your input!
Chris
Funny that I found this site. I was just listening to a padcast yesterday that featured hypnosis. They had a guy get hypnotized so he could remember some childhood experiences. Very interesting and makes me want to try it as well!
Hello Country Music - I watched a guy get hypnotized in a class I attended, (this gentleman had a Ph.D in psychology by the way), and he was reeling off different things about his childhood. Afterwards, we were talking to him about it and he said he would “never” have been able to remember all that without being hypnotized. That was really a cool class!
I’m not sure if I would ever try hypnosis. Maybe I’m just a little scared of it since I don’t know much about it. I’ve never known anyone personally who has been hypnotized!
Oh also, in case you wanted to try it out, the wp-polls plugin is a great one to try. I tried it, and it’s pretty easy to install. You may want to try that one out if you ever decide to do a poll.
Huh, that’s an interesting perspective on advertising, but I guess you are right. We are so impacted by tv, billboards, and any advertising really.
I have never been hypnotized myself. My friends have. I sat in a room where someone was trying to do it, but have never been “under.” I guess I can see how it could be beneficial. Very interesting.
Hi Elizabeth - There are lots of people who feel the same as you do about hypnosis. I guess what it really comes down to is that we’re all hypnotized each day…why not use hypnosis to our advantage?
Thanks for the tip about the poll plugin! I’ve got to try getting that set up again!
Great blog you have!
Hi Eric S. - Yes…so many people get caught up on the word “hypnosis”, and they’re not sure exactly what that means. People don’t understand that we’re ALL being hypnotized in some form or another, each day. It’s just not called “hypnosis”.
It is cool stuff to be sure. Thats why I’ve always been intrigued by it.
Thanks for dropping by and commenting!
a very interessing article. tanks for the info
I never tried real hypnosis (and therefore kind of still not believing in it) so I would definitely try it!
I would try self hypnosis only if I would see someone do it under my own eyes before. And proof that it works. I am skeptic so I have to take it the easy way.
Sorry for the slow reply all!
Dirk - Thank you for dropping by!
Wake Up Early - Fascinating site you have! I can remember when I was young, I could tell myself before I went to bed, that I WAS going to wake up at a particular time. I would almost always wake up at that exact time! Unfortunately that doesn’t work as well any more!
Thanks for dropping by!
Car Specialist - I can understand the reluctance. Hope you get a chance to try self-hypnosis sometime. I think you will find it beneficial. Thanks for your comment!
My mom and step father quit smoking via hypnosis. It took with my mom, but my step father reverted to smoking cigars.
mlankton - Hypnosis helped me quit smoking and is one of the reasons that I get excited by the possibilities that hypnosis brings to us all. Thanks for sharing your comment!
I’ve been to a hypnotherapist and had a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend it for any reason.
Hi Kimberly - You’ve got a wonderful website and it sounds like you do great work yourself! Best of luck to you! Chris
Wll it be able to change the way of thinking and focus on the things what we really want?
I tried it once on our Senior trip in high school and it didn’t work for me, but I’m sure that wasn’t a very good test. I would try it again under the right circumstances.
I think I would have to learn more of hypnosis before I can finally decide. Not all are very much informed on what hypnosis really is and what can it do but I have to say I’m one of those who are curious.. but curiosity is not enough to come up with a decision.. so my answer would be.. still think about it
i wonder if i could trade better with hypnosis. being a good trader is all psychology.
I haven’t tried hypnosis before. Still I have no plan to try it. Geee, I am really that scared!
I have never tried but i would like to have a try…for me, i think hypnosis is amazing, how can they read people mind, abt curious about this part.
would like to give it a try since they mention at one of the article that this can help for to reduce the mingrain. hopefully it works.
will try and will ask my friend take video for that so that i can know the whole progress or when my friend then i will follow ans take the whole progress. haha…or if you have then please share with me..
haven’t but going soon. i have made an appointment with a “sifu” at Taiwan, and the appointment fall on next month, which is Nov, can’t wait to reach that day la.
maybe yes or maybe not…depends on the situation, if the situation is asking to do it then i have to else i won’t. im not interesting about that anywhere, but some of my friend, they are think of it maybe will just have more info from them.
A friend of mine was taking a Hypnosis therapy cause her best friend dies, before some weeks of treatment the says that fill really good and ready to continue with her life, I don´t know if it is necessary, but can be a solution for issues with died parents or families.
If hypnosis will help a lot on my part, why not? But I think I should be really ready before doing it. Actually, I have a negative thought of hypnosis, but I know I still have to learn about it, maybe after knowing all about my thoughts would differ.
Never been tried and never will. I’m scared!
Im curious bout Hypnosis, wanted to try once if i had the chance. Who knows i might fall in love in dream rather than reality.
Hypnosis works on a certain subconscious part of the mind, and since the mind is intricately linked to the physical body, I believe that’s how it can help with certain issues.
Yeah, I have tried hypnosis before. Actually my father is a hypno therapist.
I think hypnosis is a very solid tool to use in your arsenal if you know how to use it and how to administer it ethically. As people become aware of their surroundings and how their mind works they tend to learn how to be more efficient and effective at everyday life.
I think hypnosis is a very important tool to learn about. I know I try to find everything I can about hypnosis to help understand it uses in and on me.
My friedn tried hypnosis o give up smoking and I am really thinking about it as it worked for her! The problem is that i watched a documentary last year and i wassnt very positive about hypnosis!!
Any suggestions? Thanks
Hi Platanias - well…my first suggestion is that you can’t always believe everything you see on TV! Unfortunately…we all do seem to do that though. We see something negative on tv and thats what we believe. We see something positive on tv…and thats what we believe. We think that just because it’s on a documentary on TV, it must be true. I’d say to heck with that and believe what you want to believe. It helped your friend…why not you? Best of luck and please let us know if we can help here!
Chris
Funny, I was just talking about hypnosis like 4 days ago with my friend. And I thought about it today to break a habit that I have. I am a bit hesitant because I don’t know much about it and any potential negative effects make me nervous. But the truth is that I just need to educate myself more because I barely know anything about it. I’ll be reading more of your site. Thanks.
yes, self-hypnosis programs will help you when nothing else will. But self hypnosis is not a magic bullet you must practice it consistently and know what you are doing…even after using self hypnosis
for years…I till find it to be a challenge at times

Have a great information of about hypnosis. Well every one knows what is hypnosis. Its true that some one are really frighten of it. But as said in this no need to afraid about it.
I’d try it, after doing some research. People seem to be hesitant about it, but that’s always the case with something new or unknown. I’ve heard positive stories about people getting over fears or changing mindsets. The problem is, I wouldn’t know who to go to. Yellow pages? Self hypnosis? I don’t know if I trust myself that much.
Hi Jessica
When you look for a hypnotist, you will just have to go with your gut feeling some of the way, but first of all you must look for someone who is certified by National Guild Of Hypnotists (NGH) That vouches for some quality.
And then try to find someone you feel sounds trustworthy and competent, and then try searching google for their name to see if anyone have written something about them in forums or elsewhere…
Hope this works as a guideline for you
Hi Hypnose, what about these self-hypnosis deals? Is it not worth the risk try it yourself, since you’re not certified? Are those just scams?
Yes i did but till date i am still confused as how it works out and this is actually great to make somebody assume about not having a object and making it being there. I like it personally.
Hypnosis is a great tool. It can produce miracles. Sometimes within minutes….
I should know, I’m a certified hypno-therapist.
Self hypnosis tapes and all that stuff can be really helpful.
But I’ve gotta say that there are other tools to use to combine with the hypnosis that can make is all so much more powerful.
One such tool is EFT, or Emotional Freedom Techniques. EFT will remove the CAUSE of the problem, and then it is a snap to use hypnosis to enforce the positive behaviour/mindset.
Hypnosis though is an amazing way to see what your so awesome, powerful mind can do.
Yup. Would try hypnosis for sure!
As a Physiotherapist, i tend to come in to contact with a range of patients who have tried Hypnotism. Many say it works, many say it doesn’t. I think alot of it all depends on the mindset as a person. Some can be psychological, and so hypnostism helps to ease the pain - or even cure the problem!
