Using Hypnosis As An Alternative To Needles & Novocain

Filed Under Hypnosis For Dental Anxiety |
Doing a spot check of the news today, I saw an interesting article on the “Medical News Today” website. The article discusses the benefits of using hypnosis in a dental office and how the USC School of Dentistry offers formal training for dental professionals in the use of hypnosis.
I think that using hypnosis in the dental office makes perfect sense. Self hypnosis is a great way to calm fears and help someone relax. I believe that anyone in the medical profession, (not just dentistry), could benefit from knowing, understanding and using hypnosis techniques to calm a patient’s nerves.
The article goes on to say, “In the average patient, we can teach them to relax and control their fears 90 percent of the time. In a small group of patients, hypnosis allows them to control pain, bleeding or salivation during a procedure or speed up recovery time“.
If you or someone you know, suffers from dental anxiety, (and who of us doesn’t suffer at least a little), I would encourage you to take a look at this program that you can use in the comfort of your own home. Use the CD program to learn self hypnosis techniques that you can take right into your dentist’s office. After using these techniques, I guarantee your next visit to the dentist is sure to be less stressful!

Great post! We need to make much more use of hypnosis, especially during visits to the dentist. It isn’t necessary to suffer due to anxiety. Perhaps this skill should be part of the dental student’s training.
A friend of mine teaches hypnobirthing, and I use some of my natural childbirth relaxation techniques when in a stressful situation. I have been having some excruciating tooth pain that has me seeing my dentist a lot the past few weeks, and I find that hypno/relaxation techniques really go a long way in helping me stay calm and deal with the pain. Definitely worth looking into!
this will trully help me. thanks!
I found your site interesting. It will surely help me. thank you.
Thanks for the information. Is the rating over 10 or is 1 the best and 10 the worse?
Great post! Really nice.We need to make much more use of hypnosis that’s so sweet from the blogger. I found one interesting site. I think It will surely help me
I have seen hypnosis help people over come hardships in their life and I think if done right and with a willing recipient it could help anyone.
Nice post.
I’m a firm believer in the art of Hypnosis, it’s often much less complex and mysterious as it seems. It’s just how the human brain works, it reacts and acts in accordance with your beliefs. If you REALLY TRUELY believe, you can change the way your brain acts. And hypnosis is usually a temporary version of this that lasts only as long as the hypnosist plays the subject for.
I really agree with it and it will truly helps a lot and helps to reduce the the effects that are caused by the needles ..
very informative post
I’ve never used self hypnosis but hearing you speak about it makes me want to try it.
I don’t know a lot about hypnosis, but I do know I don’t like needles, novocain, and dental work in general! This gave me something to think about. Thanks.
I don’t know. I am not too into hypnosis. I have never seen it live, so for me, it’s kind of hard to put it place. I’m not the type of person who “believes after seeing”, but hypnosis doesn’t sink in for me. But if others have seen it, then I would recommend it for any medical practitioner. It might get rid of the fears people have.

The next time I get surgery I’ll use hypnosis. I had a bad allergic reaction to anesthesia the last time.
I have yet to actually be hypnotized but I am very interested in the idea and would be very open to the idea of it being used at the dentist.
for being a proponent of psychic phenomena, i have to admit that i do not buy into pure subconcious hypnosis. however, repetitive stimulation of the subsconcious CAN have an impact.
just don’t expect to go ‘completely under’
This is a great post. I think that the less use of drugs is better and for most people hypnosis really would work.
“hypnosis allows them to control pain, bleeding or salivation during a procedure or speed up recovery time” wow. I can understand controlling the pain, but blood and salivation too? That is neat. I hate the feeling of being in the dentist chair, choking on blood and spit. Interesting study, thanks for sharing.
If it is to calm down a patient i think hypnosis can be pretty good, but i will not let a teeth of mine to be removed with just hypnosis as
anesthetic!
I highly doubt that I could be hypnotized. I don’t think I could relax enough to have it really sink in. My wife on the other hand, gets hypnotized while shes WATCHING others get hynotized. She would love this post. I’m gonna pass it on to her. Thanks.

I agree with many of the above comments, I always thought it funny the images and associations people have of hypnosis. It is actually more like being really relaxed or taking a light nap, combined with making suggestions and imagery.
I think hypnosis is a good way if we use it for positive activity such as to get out our stress

I would much rather have hynosis!!
Thanks for the article. I am sure that the use of hypnosis will only increase.
I am sorry, but the rating is wrong in my previous post. It should be 8.
Time and again I have been blessed with some of the most useful tips on health from here. I really feel obliged visiting this blog.
Wow, I’m amazed that self hypnosis can control bleeding or salivation.
I knew that hypnosis can help in many cases. But my hypnosis “master” has always told me that self hypnosis can be dangerous and bad for the health.
That´s why I am now a bit surprised to find here tutorials to self hypnosis.
Can someone tell me more about the possible risks?
Thank you. Your article helps me to overcome my stress & strain.

Very inspiering stuff. Its always best to avoid the unnatural ways, and stick to the natural. It cant fail. Simply the best
Really an alternative way but does it really work? Anyone tried it out?
I hope to see this put to work soon. I am one of those people who have to deal with their fears of doctors and hospitals before thinking about the pain.
good write up on hypnosis
He who has seen present things has seen all, both everything which has taken place from all eternity and everything which will be for time without end; for all things are of one kin and of one form.
Your article is of great help not just to the medical fraternity but also to the common people.
Nice post. Thanks for sharing the link Medical News Today. I like it.
yeh, I like to see about hypnotis. very useful. nice post. thanks
Great post! Hypnosis is indeed a fantastic way to remove variables of life that couldn’t otherwise be tamed. I quit smoking, and thankfully only to hypnosis!
I am diabetic and have to inject insulin twice a day. Only problem is I’m needlephobic and even after three years, still can’t stand it! I might try hypnosis to see if it can help with my fear of needles and maybe it’d help with the dentist too!
Excellent post. Thank you for informing me about this self hypnosis program. I take the benefit of this program to release my stress. Thanks again.
I believe in the power of hypnosis, but do you think this will also work for sceptical people?
Great article. The human mind is the most powerful computer on earth. We have only begun to scratch the surface of what it can do. Keep up the good work.
To be very true, these latest technologies and methods sometime amazed me. I’ll say them latest because I was not familiar with any of them before. Perhaps it is the internet which is the reason to be familiar with all that fantasy. I’ll check the program for myself.
hmm I have done a lot of research on hypnosis.. its really a lot of hype. it all depends on the susceptibility of the person being hypnotized. anything that can be done in hypnosis can be done in real life

If you are able to use Hypnosis to overcome pain, more power to you!
