Smoking Cessation & Weight Gain

Many people have a fear of gaining weight when they quit smoking. I would be willing to bet that a lot of those people will also use weight gain as an “excuse” to continue to smoke. There’s no need to get defensive now…I understand your concern.

The fact is, you don’t “have” to put on extra pounds when you quit smoking! Typically a person will add an extra 5 lbs or so of weight in the first month after they quit smoking. This is simply due to the metabolic changes that are taking place in the body. This weight is normally lost in the following month or two. There is no logical reason why someone should gain 15, 20, 30 pounds or more!

You see, we’ve all heard it before haven’t we?

We have been conditioned to believe that “stop smoking = get fat”! This just doesn’t have to be the case! If you want a reason to continue to smoke, fear of gaining weight seems like a pretty good one doesn’t it?

Prepare yourself now. If you’re going to quit smoking, life is going to be a little bit uncomfortable for awhile. I don’t think that anyone can deny that. I’d be lying if I sat here and told you that with self hypnosis, you’ll quit smoking and never notice it a bit. Yes…I’ve heard stories where people used hypnosis and didn’t experience any withdrawal. I think that is probably more of an exception than a rule though. I don’t want to give you a false sense either way. You may not experience any withdrawal, but I would hate for you to go into this expecting everything to be a breeze, and then at the first sign of discomfort or weight gain you say, “well…it’s not working for me…I’m just going to give up trying to quit”.

Most good hypnosis programs these days expect that people will be concerned about putting on extra pounds, and they will address the issue in the program. Don’t let some added weight be the reason for not wanting to quit! Would you rather put on a little extra weight or have your doctor tell you that you have terminal lung cancer?!?! The choice seems obvious to me!

When you feel you’ve been a slave to cigarettes and nicotine long enough, please seek out assistance! There are lots of programs and people that are happy to help and I’m one of them. If there is anything I can ever do, please don’t hesitate to ask. Sometimes all we need is a little extra encouragement.

Have a wonderful day today!
