I can’t think of many people that don’t suffer from some, (if not a lot) of stress each day? I think about my own situation. I work in the high tech industry, with a company that has grown from a few hundred people to over 8000 worldwide. With a successful business comes many problems. The threat of layoffs weighs heavy on so many. With layoffs, the people that remain are expected to pick up the workload of those that are gone. New business comes along and employees are expected to take that on as well. Welcome to the corporate world.
If work isn’t enough, there are traffic issues to deal with every day. Fortunately I live in a relatively small town and my commute to work is easy in comparison to someone in say, Chicago or New York.
The stresses of family life have increased so much since I was young. For the kids there are soccer games, baseball, football, basketball, events at school. We worry about our children getting involved in gangs, using drugs & alcohol, teen pregnancy! 50% of marriages end in divorce which brings along with it a whole different set of stresses.
It’s now known that stress & anxiety are the root causes for up to 90% of doctor visits! Wonder why? Look at the world around you and it’s not so hard to see.
I started practicing self hypnosis many years ago, (before it was cool
). I know that the reduction in stress is one of the reasons that I manage to maintain pretty good health. When others around me at work and at home are fighting off colds and flu all winter long, I usually manage to make it through with only a case of the sniffles now and then.
If we go with the assumption that the stress “isn’t” going away, but chances are it will only get worse, what do you do? Well there have been books written on the subject of stress and stress relief, and it’s not my intent to write another one. (Here is a link for a “FREE” ebook from Dr. Randy Gilchrist, called “The Coping With Stress & Anxiety System”). The focus for this site is on self hypnosis and the benefits it brings. I can speak from experience when I say that self hypnosis “will” help reduce stress. As a matter of fact, stess & anxiety are areas where self hypnosis excels. Once you’ve learned some tips and techniques, your knowledge of self hypnosis is always with you and you can tap into that power anytime you wish! What a wonderful tool to have with you when you’re stuck in traffic or waiting in line at the grocery store!
Here are some great tips from Mark Gorkin on reducing stress. The rest of his site is quite informative as well.
Another tip and something that I use very regularly, is simply taking 2 or 3 nice deep breaths, hold them for a few seconds, then exhale slowly, allowing your whole body to relax as you do. Closing your eyes when doing this helps a lot, but you obviously don’t want to do that while driving! My aunt tried this while waiting at a stop light one time, only to be awakened by honking horns and a green light! Here is a nice resource on breathing research.
Thats all for now. Hope you have a great day!
