Is A “Slow Carb” Diet The Way To Lose Weight?

I was reading through my wife’s “Prevention” magazine the other night, when I started reading an insert referencing a book they were pushing for “slow carb” recipes. I haven’t been very familiar with the term “slow carb” or exactly what it meant and how it worked, so I decided to head to my trusty computer and the internet for more information.

You may be asking yourself why am I talking about a diet on a self hypnosis site? When you think about it, we “all” should be on a diet, shouldn’t we? Not necessarily Weight Watchers, South Beach, Atkins or some other named diet. What I mean by “diet” is thatSelf Hypnosis for Weight Loss we all should be watching what we eat and eating healthy, right?

Self hypnosis isn’t about making pounds fall off of you overnight. It’s about teaching or training your subconscious mind to enjoy being healthy and eating right! At my yearly physical last year, my doctor told me my bad cholesterol (LDL) was way too high. He gave me a sheet of paper listing foods I should and shouldn’t eat. Let me tell you…knowing what to eat is one thing….sticking to that list of healthy foods is quite another! I’m sure you can relate. Utilizing self hypnosis, I was able to “see myself” eating those good foods and enjoying them. Also, I was able to set mental triggers in my subconscious so that when I was hungry, I would crave the foods I was supposed to eat instead of what I shouldn’t be eating. I’m proud to say that my bad cholesterol has dropped dramatically and my good cholesterol has increased!

Self hypnosis will help you to follow your “diet” (if you’re officially on one), and it will help you enjoy your new healthy lifestyle. If you enjoy eating healthy, hanging with that diet will be a breeze!

So…on to slow carbs. The first thing I noted is that most of the websites I visited, hinted at the slow carb diet and wanted to “sell me” a book or some “special report”. My site is about “giving you” information for free, in hopes that you will frequent my site and my advertiser’s sites. Think of me as your “internet research guy”! :)

First of all, if you don’t know what a slow carb diet is, let me give you an overview. “Slow carb” refers to the rate at which carbohydrates cause changes to our blood glucose & insulin levels. The “faster” the carb, (as determined by the glycemic index), the quicker it will change the glucose & insulin levels. Conversely, the “slower” the carb, the more gradual the effects will be.

The idea behind this diet, (if diet is what you want to call it?), is that you would want to eat carbs with a lower glycemic index, and you would space those meals or snacks out over the course of the day, (ie. 6 smaller meals vs. one or two “BIG” meals). The result, a more balanced & levelized energy source throughout the day. Foods that have a high GI will cause blood glucose levels to spike and then drop as quickly as they spiked. Ever experienced a “sugar high” only to “crash” an hour later leaving you sluggish and feeling down? Foods with a lower GI tend to leave you feeling more “full”, and will positively affect your mood and concentration.

I think you’re right on the money here. Without realizing that it was self-hypnosis, I was able to get my mind to accept that I only wanted to eat healthy foods. I did it by focus and visualization. I now have a lot easier time sticking to healthy foods.

By the way, welcome to the D-List! Your sites will definitely add value to it!

It would take something like self hypnosis to make me stop craving as much junk food!! Thanks for the idea, I’ll have to try it.
